The vehicle dynamics is executed in the real-time HiL system and the resulting position is sent back to VTD.

VTD operates in co-simulation mode with real-time performance. The HiL implementation is used in later stages of a system’s development cycle.

The human driver has his own perception of the environment (via monitors or projection systems). The controller blends and prioritizes human vs. controller commands and sends the result back to the vehicle dynamics on VTD side.
